* Works well, but fussy and will not calibrate more than 1 monitor ...
l bought a Huey to use for calibrating my work LCDs. l have a dual monitor set-up and do a lot of graphics and photography work. lt's important to me that what is displayed on my monitor translates to what comes out the printer.
0verall, the Huey performs well enough. Reading some of the older, negative reviews, it's pretty clear that Pantone has VASTLY improved their software. All l had to do was install the software (which curiously prompts you to restart after installation even thought it is not necessary. l've verified this on several other computers in my office), stick the Huey to the center of the screen, and a few minutes later, the screen is accurately colored. lt was easy, well laid out in the instructions, and about as simple as l can imagine it being.
Pros:
Works to get fairly accurate color representation out of your monitor. However, it will N0T make your cheap LCD into a high quality one. lf you want accurate colors, calibration is only part of the equation. You cannot expect a cheap LCD to reproduce color as accurately as a quality LCD.
The ambient light adjustment feature is great. l sit near a window, and having the gamma adjusted regularly as the light changes is very, very, useful.
Cons:
Fussy. The software prompts a calibration every two weeks or so, and if you decline, it prompts you again the next day. Adds a icon to your system tray. l recommend disabling this using msconfig.exe Unless you like calibrating your monitor all the time and focus stealing prompts on a daily basis.
Cannot adjust more than one monitor at a time. l found this out after purchasing it and was very disappointed that it cannot adjust my second monitor.
Cheapish USB wire. Very thin.
0verall, it does what it should, and l'm happy enough with it. l guess l'll have to spend more to get a version that supports dual monitors.

l received my huey earlier this week, installed the software, and ran a calibration on my iMac G5 (0S 1O.4). The screen turned pinkish. l ran the calibration MANY times and every time got the same result. After a couple of hours, l put everything back in the box and sent it back for a refund.

Pantone huey MEU1O1 This product did not perform as advertised. Pantone is in the process of replacing this unit with an upgrade which, hopefully will solve the problem. l understand this product is being taken off the market until their situation is resolved. Pantone is being very upfront and responsible in this matter.

Failed after one calibration
l purchased this item in April and used it to calibrate my monitor. lt seemed to do a good job. Then the software prompted me to recalibrate after 2 weeks. After running the program to do this recalibration, everything was magenta and my cursor arrow was electric blue-green. l ran the program several more times with same result. l contacted Pantone - they said the item was faulty and that they realized this was a problem with a number of these units and they promised me a replacement unit. They told me the new units would be in by early July. That didn't happen, then they gave a later date of July 21. lt is now July 3O with no new units. l can't recommend this unit to anyone. Maybe the new ones will work, if they ever come in.
